Fort Myers OVER VIEW
Let Chris explain where Fort Myers is in the South West Florida metropolitan area. As you start at the Interstate just South of the Caloosahatchee (pronounced "ka-LOOSE-a-HAT-chee" River bridge (Pineland Road exit), Moving South and West is Fort Myers, then Fort Myers Beach, then Sanibel / Captiva Islands, then the Gulf water.
Fort Myers, the City of Palms, is the county seat and commercial center of Lee County, Florida. (the two counties making up South West Florida metropolitan area are Lee on the North and Collier on the South).
The city has numerous gated communities and waterfront properties on San Carlos Bay and the Caloosahatchee River and a few canals. The city has many parks, recreation areas, and golf courses, and features thousands of shopping and dining venues.
The city is bordered by the Caloosahatchee River on the north, and Fort Myers Beach on the west, and Bonita Springs / Estero on the south and Lehigh Acres on the west.
The city is famous for being the life long winter home of Thomas Edison (Seminole Lodge) and Henry Ford (The Mangoes), which are both big tourist attractions in the region, are located on McGregor Boulevard in Fort Myers.
