Bonita Springs & Beach OVER VIEW

Let Chris explain where the Bonitas are in the South West Florida metropolitan area. As you move south on the Interstate, South of the Caloosahatchee (pronounced "ka-LOOSE-a-HAT-chee" River bridge (Pineland Road exit),and South past Fort Myers, then South past Estero you arrive to the area of Bonita Springs and Bonita Beach, just before you enter into the Naples area.

Bonita Springs and Bonita Beach, the “Gateway to the Gulf”, is in Lee County. The city is located on both Estero Bay inlet to the Gulf and the Gulf of Mexico. The area referred to as Bonita Beach is not a city but the beach located on a road-accessible barrier island (Little Hickory Island) that lies between the Gulf of Mexico and Estero Bay. Imperial River flows through the downtown heart of the city and empties into Estero Bay.

Bonita Springs translates as "beautiful springs", and it is exquisite, from its beaches on the western coast, stretching east through its residential communities and on to flourishing groves and rich farmland. It is the northern edge of Florida's tropical zone; the areas north of Bonita, being in sub-tropical weather zones.

The city is the gateway to Barefoot Beach Preserve Park, one of the last undeveloped barrier islands on Florida's southwest coast. This Park is located in both Collier and Lee Counties and accessible by Bonita Beach Road. It is one of the areas of Collier County which you cannot drive to without going through Lee county.

Locally Bonita Springs is well known for being the home to the Naples-Fort Myers Greyhound Track, just next door to Chris' Mortgage office. The city is a border city, although it is all legally in Lee county. The main street of businesses through Bonita is Bonita Beach Blvd, which is just a few hundred yards North of the Collier County Line. This is I-75 exit 116, the last exit in Lee County. Exit 111 (where Deane and Chris live) is Immokalee Rd, (leading to the Seminole Indian town of Immokalee) which is the first exit in Collier County.
