Chris and Deane moved to Florida from Virginia in 1992 and the hurricane storms have been a big part of our lives since we got here. We had to evacuate our home almost once per year since 1992. Our first year here, GORDON flooded our home 3 inches deep. After that we would have trees down, shingles removed, damage to the pool enclosure and everystorm left the lawn in a mess that would take a whole week to clean up. But nothing else really bad til August 2004.

Then we lost six months out of our lives. We lived in Daytona Beach Shores and also had a second home in Seven Devils NC. For three months we lived in our car or our motor home, or our home in NC or motels around Alabama, Georgia & South Carolina. WHY? Charlie, Francis, Ivan, Jeane. After Francis we drove our motor home to our NC home for safety. Ivan ravaged Florida, then it hit NC damaging our home and flooding our motor home that we just drove there for safety. We had 10 insurance claim numbers and sustained thousands in damage. We had a Condo on the ocean on the 15th floor and the entire 3000 square foot |
home had 10 inches of water in it after Charley. We got it cleaned up and all carpet replaced at $6 square foot (thats 6 times 3000) when Francis flooded it again. Then Jeane came and completey destroyed our swimming pool. Ivan destroyed most of the roads and water system around our NC home (FEMA replaced all - and we needed new roads and water system anyway...)

Anyway, when Deane insisted, we bought a home in Naples, and Wilma hit there as soon as we got there and did $7000 damage to us. BUT we love Florida and as they say in my West Virginia home, we ain't gonna run away. So come on down y'all.
Florida ain't had that many hurricanes anyway
